Argentina roll past Mexico
The Argentina show rolls on. Their next stop is Cape Town, for a quarter-final against Germany, after they beat Mexico 3-1 in Johannesburg with another excellent attacking display, led by Lionel Messi and Carlos Tevez. Two goals from Tevez and one from Gonzalo Higuain gave Argentina victory, with Javier Hernandez replying for a Mexico side who gave the Argentina defence a far more rigorous workout than anything they had experienced in the group stages.![]()

Miscellaneous Soccer Commentary
Clinical Germany Dispatch Argentina The clash between two of soccer's traditional heavyweights was billed as a close run thing but Germany's meeting with Argentina proved anything but. Thomas Mueller, Miroslav Klose (2) and Arne Friedrich all netted as the South Americans crashed to a 4-0 defeat.
Businesslike Dutch Into Final If you asked the man on the street before the World Cup who he was most looking forward to watching, the Netherlands would have featured prominently. Their 3-2 defeat of Uruguay sent them into the final for the third time in their history, but who'd have predicted that they would have achieved the feat in such pragmatic fashion?
Dumb footballers: Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand
World Cup Observations Some more observations from the tournament so far: Why does Maicon get so emotional after Brazil's goals? Twice I have seen him holding back the tears, including after scoring this goal against North Korea. The Portugal match is the only one of Brazil's encounters where he has not been found sobbing, the first time since 1978 that the Selecao have failed to score in a World Cup group match. Surely this warrants tears even more.
