FIFA using World Cup to address racism
U.S. midfielder DaMarcus Beasley has heard the ugly words, vicious taunts screamed by fans in the Netherlands simply because he is black. Cameroon's brilliant Samuel Eto'o was so sickened by insults hurled his way that he threatened to walk off the field. Even Thierry Henry, one of the world's best players and a spokesman for racial tolerance, has been stung by a slur - from Spain's coach, no less. Soccer has struggled for years to rid itself of racism.

Poland, Ecuador both optimistic
Poland is expecting plenty of support when it plays Ecuador in its World Cup opener on Friday. Rather than worry about warnings of potential troublemakers crossing the border into host nation Germany, coach Pawel Janas is thinking about the vocal following that should boost his team. "We will have very good support during the World Cup," Janas said Thursday. "I'm not afraid about the behavior of our fans. I'm sure they will support the team and behave as they did during the qualifiers.
