Argentina, Germany renew old rivalry (AP)
The rivalry between Argentina and Germany is an old one, including two World Cup finals, with one victory each. And it's bubbling up again. The teams meet again Friday, when the quarterfinal in Berlin puts Argentine wonder boy Lionel Messi and Lukas Podolski of Germany on center stage. But for the two young stars, the World Cups that started it all exist only in the books -- or the videos.

Ukraine looks to continue surprising run (AP)
Ukraine's players are hoping their outsider status sticks despite their progress to the World Cup quarterfinals. That should mean the pressure is on their opponents, the next of whom is Italy on Friday. "It should be easier for us because nobody will expect us to win. We've done well to have got this far.

United 3, Wizards 2 (AP)
Freddy Adu and Christian Gomez scored, and D.C. United also benefited from an own goal in a 3-2 victory over the Kansas City Wizards on Wednesday night. The MLS-best United (10-1-5) swept the four-game season series with Kansas City and stretched its lead over the Wizards (6-6-2) in the Western Conference to 15 points.
