Figo announces international retirement
Luis Figo retired from international soccer Saturday after making his 127th appearance for Portugal over 15 years. The Portugal captain made his announcement after Portugal lost the third-place match to Germany 3-1. "This was my last game for the national team," Figo told Portuguese television. Zidane sends France through
France are through to the World Cup final after earning a 1-0 win over Portugal in a disappointing encounter in Munich. His presence provides a compelling narrative for Sunday's clash with Italy, but he and his teammates will need to raise their game if they are to offer a test for Italy.

Vindication for Domenech
Raymond Domenech has called for one last effort from his team after they reached the World Cup final with a 1-0 semi-final victory over Portugal. "What matters now is to go all the way. We can't be content with that," the French coach said.

Hundreds of thousands of Germans gather
Germans partied Saturday as if they had won the World Cup, with hundreds of thousands of soccer fans gathering to watch their team win the tournament's third-place game. They gathered before towering outdoor TV screens in this southern city, in Berlin and in points between - and they cheered wildly as their team scored one, two, three times to dispatch Portugal.
