UEFA to consider expanding Euro participation
UEFA will consider the possibility of expanding the European Championship finals from 16 teams to 24. Though European soccer's governing body insisted Friday its executive committee had not discussed the issue on Thursday or Friday, it did say the idea would be studied.

Arsenal asks fans not to taunt Cole
Arsenal asked its fans Friday not to taunt former player Ashley Cole during this weekend's Premier League match at Chelsea. The England left back moved from Arsenal to Chelsea in an acrimonious transfer in August. Cole first angered Arsenal fans by secretly talking to the Blues more than a year before his transfer, a rules violation which led to him being fined.

Champions League round-up
Holders Barcelona made it through to the second round of the Champions League with a 2-0 win over Werder Bremen. Barca, who required a victory in their final group match to reach the last 16, took all three points courtesy of first-half goals from Ronaldinho and Eidur Gudjohnsen.
