Benitez unhappy with penalty denial
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez was adamant that his team should have been awarded at least one penalty during their Champions League match against Chelsea. He said his players were convinced that a Jamie Carragher header struck William Gallas' arm in the area during the second half of the 0-0 draw at Anfield. "The players said to me afterwards 'yes, it was clear'," said Benitez.

Spanish La Liga Roundup, Oct. 1
La Liga Wrap: Substitute Pablo Redondo (L) scored in the 88th minute Saturday to give Getafe a 2-1 victory over Valencia and lift it atop the Spanish league. Elsewhere in Spain, FC Barcelona rallied from a two goal deficit to earn a draw with Real Zaragoza on goals by Rondaldinho and Samuel Eto'o.

Zambia beats Liberia 5-0 in African World Cup qualifying match
Ignatius Lwipa and Nchimuna Mweetwa scored two goals each Saturday to help Zambia beat Liberia 5-0 in an African World Cup qualifying match. Neither team had a chance to advance to next year's World Cup finals in Germany from Group A. Either Togo or Senegal will claim the top spot and qualify for the tournament. Lwipa scored the first goal in the 48th minute, and Mweetwa chipped in the second a minute later. Numba Mumaba scored Zambia's third goal in the 60th after defensive error.

Iaquinta signs new deal

Iaquinta boost for Udinese
Italian scoring sensation Vincenzo Iaquinta has signed a three-year contract extension with Udinese. The Bianconero striker has made peace with the Friuli outfit and will remain with the Bianconeri until June 2010, the club confirmed on Friday.

The Chicago Fire and Kansas City Wizards look to get closer to clinching spots in the postseason when the teams conclude their season series at Arrowhead Stadium. With three games remaining in its regular-season schedule, Kansas City is holding on to the fourth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, two points behind third-place Chicago.

FC Dallas Back on Winning Track
Roberto Mina scored twice Wednesday, his second straight two-goal game, to lead FC Dallas past the Los Angeles Galaxy, 4-1.

Real Salt Lake-Rapids Preview (AP)
Having already clinched a spot in the postseason, the Colorado Rapids still have a shot to secure homefield advantage for the first round. The Rapids can get closer to that goal when they host lowly Real Salt Lake. Colorado wrapped up a playoff berth with a 3-1 victory over league-worst CD Chivas USA last Saturday.

L.A.'s Hartman Becomes Winningest MLS Goalie
Landon Donovan scored on a late penalty kick to give the Los Angeles Galaxy a 1-0 victory last night over host Chivas USA, making teammate Kevin Hartman Major League Soccer's all-time winningest goalkeeper with his 102nd career victory.

Rookie Sealy Powers Wiz Past Fire
Rookie Scott Sealy scores two goals, and the surging Kansas City Wizards blow the game open by scoring twice in a minute during the second half of a 3-0 victory Friday night over the Chicago Fire.

Chivas USA 1, Crew 0 (AP)
Francisco Palencia scored in the 59th minute to lead Chivas USA over the Columbus Crew 1-0 Saturday night. The Crew (10-15-4) almost tied the game in the 71st minute but John Wolyniec could not convert a rebound attempt. Chivas USA (4-21-5) won for the first time since beating New England on July 22. The loss eliminated Columbus from postseason contention.
