Dortmund heading for top of Bundesliga
Borussia Dortmund has battled back from the brink of bankruptcy to become a force in the Bundesliga with a lineup of several teenagers led by a 17-year-old Turk. The 95-year-old club that draws the biggest home crowds in Germany and won the Champions League in 1997 nearly went under in February because of mounting debts. A rescue package by creditors saved the club. With a 2-1 win in Nuremberg on Saturday, Dortmund has moved up to sixth.

Goodbye George: Paying tribute to Best

Tributes pour in for Best
George Best, regarded by many as one of the greatest players to have played the game, has died in a London hospital after suffering multiple organ failure. Best, 59, who underwent a liver transplant three years ago, spent the last two months of his life fighting an infection which ultimately brought about his demise. "He was a fantastic player. Everybody at United regarded George as being one of the greatest of all time," said Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

Gomez has hernia surgery (AP)
D.C. United midfielder Christian Gomez had hernia surgery this week in Germany and the team said Friday he's expected to be ready for the start of the 2006 preseason. His recovery should take two to three weeks. Gomez was the club's MVP this season after recording 11 goals and nine assists.
