Ching to have surgery on torn right hamstring
San Jose Earthquakes forward Brian Ching, who returned to play two weeks ago after missing five matches, will have surgery Thursday to repair a torn right hamstring muscle.
Ching was injured in a reserve league match Sunday is expected to miss several weeks. He had an MRI on Tuesday that revealed the tear, then team doctors scheduled the surgery. Ching originally strained his hamstring May 14 against FC Dallas and appeared twice since, both as a substitue.
